So many good things in this movie, outside the flimsy plot. Let me count the ways: Hugh Herbert (first, notice) woo woo! playing Ezra, who Guy Kibbee and Zasu Pitts fear is going to cut them out of his will "like a ripe banana", hundreds of chorines parading around singing I only have eyes for you while holding up huge portraits of the immeasurably cute but only somewhat talented Ruby Keeler, Joan Blondell as a laundress singing an ode to animated sets of longjohns, with a somewhat unusual singing technique (you'll have to see and hear it yourself, I can't do justice to it in words), and best of all the wonderful thirties tunes of Warren and Dubin, maybe their best score together. There's a wonderful review of this on pre-code.com, check it out. I think I can safely say they don't make them like this anymore 2 years 10 months ago -

There's nothing quite like Ruby Keeler doing her awkward little dance (which I love), while three characters gawk and say something like "this kids got chops!"
Also, the fact that this movie has the gag where the women are so hot that a blind man (who straight up has a sign that says "blind man" around his neck) lowers his glasses to get a better look is just fantastic.
Probably Berkeley's strangest movie, maybe not his best but it's up there. 9 years 9 months ago -
