The film was stupid. Yes, that much was certain. However, there were some decent scares embedded in all the derivative garbage that existed throughout the film. The "possessions" were very creepy and the atmosphere was a nice surprise. Still, the flaws consisting of the dumb as fuck father, annoying older child and his asshole friend, and the completely unoriginal story arch makes this film not as special as it could have been.

It's basically like Poltergeist with aliens, and it works. Kind of leaves you an eerie feeling that can be difficult to shake off. Not as good as Insidious or Sinister, but worth seeing if you enjoyed these two films.

Despite the negative comments I just watched this movie with my girlfriend, it was quite scary! To compare, Paranormal Activity is crap, this one at least was scary.

Very surprisingly good.

Why I keep torturing me with aliens films? If you don't like the idea of being taken.. you'll have a nice time of suspense, otherwise don't bother. Only thing worth watching Keri Russell's acting.

Wank. Derivative wank.

Like many others have said here, it’s a derivative horror film centered around aliens and abduction or visitation. Like Signs, but without those really magnetic personalities involved like Mel Gibson or Joaquin Phoenix. I’ve been on an alien kick lately and this almost scratches that itch but not entirely.

Among lots of ridiculous horror movies, that movie shone. It was fun to watch it. I expect a sequel.

pathetic waste of time, predictable with nothing original whatsoever
also a blatant rip-off of a dozen of horror movies at certain points

I hate these kind of movies that there is no solution and no way to exist!

This movie is same as so many other movies and nothing new about it (except the actors).. :))

Says so right on the poster, Dark Skies by the producer of Sinister. And this is basically Sinister, but with Keri Russell instead of Ethan Hawke, and aliens instead of a supernatural monster. The premise is stolen from Torchwood and Doctor Who (Sinister was From Out of the Rain, Dark Skies steals from Children of Earth and The Impossible Astronaut), there's warped video, inexplicable children's drawings, jump scares aplenty, a haunted house atmosphere, kids sleepwalking outside the house, a skeptical cop, the feeling this could all be in the characters' heads except it isn't, disappearing children, and the family moving house at the end. If you've never seen Sinister, this is actually an effective sci-fi/horror thriller, with mystery, interesting reveals, and genuine creep factor. If you have, AND some of the source material, it feels incredibly derivative.

I never watched this movie when it came out, because the trailer looked exactly like Poltergeist. Now that I've seen it can say that it's probably more true to Poltergeist than the actual remake.
This is not a bad movie, but Poltergeist is much better.

A bit obvious, but still nice to watch. The so called specialists in these type of movies are always so very lame, though. Keri Russell and Dakota Goyo were indeed great.
