   This movie has to be read beyond the outer layer of the historical events, it is much more than just to show how some dutch people were fighting the rebels in indonesia.
   This movie is, in the deeper layer, about our search for redemption and justice, and serving the right 'master'.
   

   Can we undo the wrong? (our own and the one of somebody else?)
   The movie shows many ways in which life does not work well, we will never flourish at all following those ways. But it does not show the solution. What is the solution then? Again and again I find not other answer than Forgiveness and Grace. The main enemy is inside of us, not outside. Only when we are forgiven by grace, we can rebuild the broken pieces to flourish back to a new life. Our wrong cannot be undone, or ignored, but it can be redeemed in the same way as the Japanese art of Kintsugi does.
