I've got to agree with the two precious comments, the blatant cuts take something away from it and there's no real payoff for the length. I'll also add that never getting to see the big picture diminishes the scope. Even with all those complaints it was still really cool to watch once.

Between al the serious avant-garde, a short like this can come as a relief. spoiler But after that I stopped minding them and just enjoyed the ride. Way better.

A belated reply to Walter Neff:

I am very old, and I actually saw this "live," as a traveling "art installation" at a museum (as well as seeing the film [actually video] version). Obviously this was a long time ago, and my memory is not infallible, but I can say with some confidence that no, they were able to pull this off on more than one occasion, so I don't see the point of "cheating" the filmed record.

I found the full version here: (mod-edit: dead link removed) Not to take anything away from the virtuosity in planning, execution and camera work, I also found it a bit repetitious. I hope the crew was wearing gas masks. I also think there was a little bit of cheating going on, because it looked like there were some pre-lit candles. I liked the flaming comet tether ball the best.

the original is an art film, I'm not quite sure what the sped up and to the tune of WIlliam Tell Overture the other one is.

Its heavily cut, and not even cleverly.
Which kind of takes away some of its power.

There's a 9 minute speeded up version on youtube which is fine. I saw the 30 minute version earlier, you obvously don't miss anything.

I personally think the Honda commercial is far superiour, although shorter.

This is short is essentially a very elaborate Rube Goldberg machine. There are some impressive aspects to the complex machine which heavily uses chemical reactions and fire in its triggers. Also astounding is it's length at just under 30 minutes of continuos work. This is both an incredible feat and ultimately the films biggest fault. Rube Goldberg machines are fun to watch for a short period, but with such a hefty running time it becomes redundant and tedious. Also lacking is the finale, which just kind of ends without a final task. It's certainly an amazing effort, but doesn't really earn its length.

Masterpiece! Not boring at all. Just skillful and really fascinating.
I wonder how many times they have restarted it from the beginning when something stopped/did not work?
Cool idea.

It's kinda cool for a couple of minutes, but then pretty repetitive and boring for most of the remaining 25 minutes.

The OK Go video for This Too Shall Pass is far more entertaining and well done.

In fact, OK Go videos are generally more fun and inspired than 99% of the short films you get checks for here, despite not being granted the honor of IMDb short film recognition.
