Ebert said that Out of the Past was the "best smoking movie ever made." Now that I've seen Destry Rides Again, I have to disagree. That smokey bar looked great!

What a bad ending! Movie ends with little girl's "Little Joe" song.

Finally I'm beginning to realize why Dietrich plays saloon girls with loose morals so amazingly well, it's a sad case of art imitating life. Kind of a strange off the wall comedy western.

From the IMDb Trivia:

quote:
James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich had an affair which lasted for the duration of filming. She later claimed that she had to have an abortion after Stewart made her pregnant.

The chemistry is certainly palpable on the screen.

The female character in Blazing Saddles makes so much more sense after seeing Marlene Dietrich's character in this film.

Entertaining enough, but I really hated Dietrich's character, and her love connection with Stewart wasn't believable at all. On top of that her singing made me cringe. The rest of the movie is okay but maybe a bit too silly, especially towards the end.

Wonderfully entertaining movie with surprisingly good chemistry between Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich. Witty script almost makes it a screwball comedy-western.
