I hated this movie. I hated the child. I hate everything after watching this.

6+/10
Beautiful surroundings, good acting by Holmes and young Bailee Madison, worse by Pierce - on the other hand, he's supposed to play a big skeptic...

Atmospheric but the characters refuse to have any sense about them. Even once they realize what is going on they continue to act in a way conducive to driving the plot forward rather than saving the child.

On the up side it's got some nice photography and the acting from the three leads is pretty good (some of the supporting cast are poor though). There was also a single effective scare for me. On the down side the characters are not just stupid, they act in ways that defy all common sense. In fact the movie in general is just incredibly stupid which can be deeply frustrating and take you out of the film because of it. I can't believe that Guillermo Del Toro and Matthew Robbins (who both have good to excellent track records) wrote this and that at no point neither of them said "Wait a second. This makes absolutely no sense."

A good horror if you are a child. Typical horror with typical unconvincable actors. Not that bad but also not that good.

The monsters were very good looking, and the house was absolutely gorgeous- but the child was annoying as hell, the dad was annoying as hell, and everyone was so stupid they almost deserved to be eaten.

Haha, I love this. Always when I saw a movie and enjoyed it there always hundreds of bad comments. Do you ever enjoy watching movies? Seriously. Maybe you should read books instead.

Geez, people are really comparing this to some of the worst movies of modern cinema?

There's calling it bad and then there's missing the mark.

The perfect example of an interesting and creepy premise completely ruined by showing way, way too much.

It was nice and creepy. Maybe it wasn't a stellar movie, but it definitely wasn't terrible. Actually, it sort of reminded me of the horror movie "The Gate" (1986) more than the original "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark", with better monsters.

It's nowhere near as bad as that, but it has big problems.

Well sure it was pretty scary with the suspense and all but once you see the little things~ everything seems ridiculous.

Your standard horror movie with not much point to it. I don't give too much thought to this one.

This movie had some of the most poorly constructed character personalities I've ever seen. Their actions contradicted their personalities so many times. Also, it was so dark, I could barely see a blessed thing.
