I always wondered why Criterion would bother releasing this and, now that I've seen it, I still wonder why. Just a really average, uninvolving film that I suppose is only notable for presenting such a perversely flat, joyless depiction of competitive skiing.
Some really expressive editing and scoring, as well as breathtaking scenery and skiing keep the pace moving along on this minimally-plotted sports film.
Whilst the skiing scenes perfectly capture the danger, thrill and speed of the sport the rest of the film is seriously lacking. An uninspiring storyline and flat performances from Redford and Hackman.

Felt like the 1960s version of a modern movie where CGI explosions distract you from the lack of plot and actingEbbywebby
