Aside from the fact that it started one of the most famous franchises in film history, I don't see much value in the film itself. I think it's quite terrible. Stale cinematography; zero character development; no themes; underwhelming action; unnecessary characters (without Ursula Andress the film wouldn't lose a thing). Connery is fine and there are some "iconic" moments but this feels more like a cultural artifact than a film now.
Being a big fan of the books but never having seen the Pre Craig Bond thought I'd finally get round to seeing them all.
Have to say I'm a little disappointed with Dr. No.
Incredibly PG, why add Fenix, and I don't think I heard a Jamaican accent in the whole movie. Terrible fight scenes; not sure why Connery is so bad at fighting, being a navy man.
Would have loved to have seen Bond struggling to get through the infamous obstacle course.
Can see why they changed the book climax ending though :D but I think death by guano is much more classic Bond than death in a lab and should have been left in.
Iconic first James Bond movie. Saw it multiple times over the past 40 years but this one was the first time with my son. He enjoyed it and for a first JB movie he was amused about all the kissing :-)
Great stuff, although never really cared for the story, still don't. But this set the bar for all coming bonds. Can't wait to watch the next one with my son.
I found this one kind of unwatchable with the casual misogyny and racism. Like why is there a canonically Chinese character cosplayed by a white man lol. It's to be expected for the time I guess but it doesn't help a film that's otherwise also quite bad.
While modern audiences may see it as slow-paced, it's nonetheless incredibly iconic. The superspy's life is, in fact, more glamorous on his spare time than it is on the job, where there's a fair bit of actual spycraft before Q Branch comes in on later films and fills the screen with another way of doing things. And yet, there's the girl in the sexy bikini, Ken Adam's huge, crazy sets (Dr. No's interrogation chamber of genius), and a mad scientist with robot hands. Bond's hyper-reality is clearly being born. Some aspects just have to catch up, that's all.

A real epoch making film. Has the feel that they were doing something fairly new when it came to action films.Earring72
