With John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan onscreen and Howard Hawks directing it, you'd expect something a bit more memorable than this. Nevertheless, it's a very joyous picture for a rainy afternoon.

Loved the humorous banter between Wayne and Mitchum and Wayne and Caan. It made for a lighter yet still rugged Western. Besides, who says cowboys don't have a sense of humor?

Caan had some looks on him when he was young, I never knew!

We've all seen those westerns that just aren't very good. You know what I mean, the characters aren't particularly memorable and the plot just drags on and on. El Dorado is a very good exception. The characters are well rounded and fleshed out, action and gunslinging is great, and the plot is tight with not too many pacing issues. Definitely a fine western.

Great characters and story. When I hear the 'critics' talk about how this isn't one of the best westerns or isn't the best Hawks film I think...so what? Only a few films manage to be as entertaining and make you wish there was a sequel because you have loved spending time within its world. Wonderful. I have to watch it regularly.

Better than Rio Bravo to me! I guess I like the humor and Mitchum > Dean Martin.
