One of those films you love to show to people who haven't seen it yet.
Conceptually interesting but very uneven in execution. There is a peculiarly squishy, grotesque, organic texture to the film which, although typical of Cronenberg, felt forced here. I do like the idea of the seamless merging of technology with the body and organic systems, which seems a likely direction for future development. The sense of displacement and other anxieties accompanying virtual reality are well-developed. Characterization on the other hand seemed quite flat--perhaps appropriate for a gaming context.
Too flawed and occasionally ridiculous to be a masterpiece, but intriguing enough to merit consideration.
Weird but really interesting.
