If this movie had a face I would punch it. I would punch this movie in the face.

Max von Sydow saves this film from being a dislike, but only just.

such a disgrace to the book. and the casting couldn't be more wrong! the entire schell family was cast wrong and they ruined oskar for me! i loved him in the books but in the movie i really wanted to punch his face. Max von Sydow was pretty good though.

Having read many bad reviews, i was suprised to rather like the movie. Haven't read the book, but found the story rather moving. Although the cast is largely wasted, the lead kid actor is terrific.

I found it an excellent movie. It's a good story, very well built, Thomas Horn performed greatly, it was touching, losing someone in those circumstances, the steps you take while grieving, there's nothing nonsense about that, I liked it.
Don't understand the hating, really, they're just opinions I guess..

Having read the book, I would say the worst parts of this movie are when it deviates from the book--which is to say, Oskar's POV. I did not find it necessary at all the scene where Hanks calls Bullock just before the Towers fall. That is as bad as I would expect a Hollywood movie can get on the subject of 9/11 (ie, Remember Me--ugh!). On the other hand, I am the parent of a child who has Asperger's, and I thought the portrayal by the kid was spot-on (though the physical self-abuse he displays is not something I would characterize as typical). As has been said before, read the book, it's better.

I don't get all the bad reviews this movie got. I didn't know much about it when I decided to watch it, maybe I had low expectations, but I thought it was a nice movie, with touching performances, and very successful in dealing with very deep feelings on such a tragedy like 9/11. Yes, I agree it was slightly longer than it could be, but I don't see why so much hatred towards it.

This isn't one of Daldry's more well-made movies, but there was plenty to appreciate and the subject matter for me was conveyed well enough to stir quite a bit of emotion. I don't really get all the hate, it's a mediocre film that's very creative in some aspects and certainly delivers an emotional impact.

'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close' was completely irrational, tremendously long, and fully nonsense. It has the Best Picture nod because it's Daldry's. Awful.

An incredibly moralistic motion picture with an extreme dose of sugary tastelessness....

Very well shown what is to live with an "asperger" son.
Good movie. I really don't understand the negative comments - maybe only "aspergers" and very sensitive people can see the deepness of it.

I was a total wreck for the last 40 minutes of this. Holy crap, I cried! Though it must be said I have always been a sucker for this kind of dramas.
Although his character may be a little too much sometimes, Thomas Horn is extremely talented portraying this kid. It's definitely not the easiest character to perform, but he does it with extreme credibility! My hat's off to him!

A very average movie. The Tom Hanks CGI bit was a bit much.
