A wonderful old fashioned melodrama. It kind of reminds of a Douglas Sirk feature from the fifties.

Having recently watched Todd Haynes' "Carol", I found this a bit more melodramatic and overwrought. Still, a well-told story.

Entertaining retake on the Sirk style, though obviously it falls short in comparison. The issues of race and sexuality brought up in this film were intriguing. Julianne Moore does an incredible job as always.

Well-played and interesting drama about homophobia and forbidden friendships across racial boundaries.

Indeed, this is basically a remake of Douglas Sirk's “All That Heaven Allows” with Julianne Moore as Jane Wyman, Dennis Haysbert and Dennis Quaid both as Rock Hudson. Interesting move to split him into two and making his real life tragedy part of the film.

Pretty good movie about the hostility people used to suffer because of their sexuality or race. Of course these problems still exist in some form, but while watching I just kept thinking "I'm so glad I'm not living in those times". Pretty strong atmosphere.

Alias, please shut up! You clutter far too much in many pages with the same snide comment.

It will always be a mystery to me why this is higher rated then I'm Not There.

Horribly bland and over-deliberate cardboard cut-out of a story. I don't feel bad at all for what Julianne Moore went through in this film, not after what she did to her husband in The Hours.
