This is an amazing film and deserves to be seen by more people. There is apparently a restored and subtitled print somewhere out there (Scorsese apparently has access to it), and it would be a great service if it got transferred to dvd or bluray. 10 years 4 months ago

An impressive film that I'm glad to have found. To watch this I did buy one of the weirdest bootleg DVDs. There were subtitles maybe 75% of the time, but all the Kazakh dialog throughout was dubbed over in Russian by one man on top of the existing audio. This was distracting, and I'm sure I missed some of the nuances to the story.

The Fall of Otrar is a stunning epic. The battle sequences especially in the last half look real and brutal. The main character is charming and carries the story well. Some of the scenes will stick with me for a while: Undzhu burning himself to fake frostbite and the liquid metal preservation and execution are both violent and beautifully effective.
