This movie made me dizzy, but in a good way! Sandra Bullock's breathing added to the experience but was a little too much throughout the entire movie. Watch in IMAX 3D if possible.

I watched it on a small screen. No big screen, no 3D bullshit. I heard lots of reviews that said this movie has no story.
Well it's not a 3 and a half hour long Peter Jackson film. It tells a story with a great sense of balance between story, meaning and action. The cinematography is a pleasure for the mind, but i think this movie is only for those who are not addicted to the giant 3D screens and can enjoy a film watchin in an "old" flat screen cinema.

Wrote Calliope_Clamors:
"Do yourself a favor and see it on the biggest screen you can, preferably IMAX 3D. The immersion is breathtaking. (Literally, you will forget to breathe.)

"If any of this sounds like hyperbole, please tell me where I exaggerated."

Um, OK...the part about literally forgetting to breathe.

I agree with Ebbywebby. It's quite gorgeous to look at and fairly thrilling, but the dialogue, music, and story are very weak and don't measure up to the technical brilliance of this Cuaron spectacle.

It's the year 2013 and gravity is the first film i've ever watched in 3d, so i'm obviously impressed.
Though there is Not a big story, feeling of wandering w/o gravity in the space, looking out to earth, sunrise, sunset makes you thrilled as well as scary and you really get that feeling.

I wouldn't mind, except Cuaron goes out of his way to say space is vast, empty, and silent and then follows it up with loud sounds, constant action, and (for space) relative crampness. The soundtrack was ungodly awful, clanging its way into every second. Yet, even without the soundtrack their is no calm in the movie as it goes from one gigantic event to the next. At one point I pulled out my phone to time how long a moment of silence would last without a new giant event, 1min 30 seconds!!!! Seriously! Space for the ADD mind. Just amazingly disappointing, and its acclaim is just further signs of an empty, shallow American film system. I expect better from you Cuaron! (It was very pretty for a video game)

It's a visual film. If you go in expecting an action film, watch something else. Don't let the stars of this film, and it's advertising, make you think it's something else.

Overrated (in my opinion of course)

A unique experience that you've never been able to feel before. Almost unbearable in its intensity. Technically mindblowing on so many levels you can't even begin to imagine. An aesthetic beauty that gets rivaled by none.

If you can't appreciate any of this, or feel it's "overrated" by people who do, simply because the story is 'too simple', or the presence of what you perceive to be logical fallacies: you are everything that's wrong with modern audiences.

The effects were all good but the plot itself, not so much.

All and all 3D was very nice but the movie could have been better.

space is terrifying and gravity captures this fact so well. gravity does not rely on clever writing and a twisting plot to tell a story. everything, from the adventure to the emotion, is expressed in the cinematography and a level of cgi which is simply unfounded in other action blockbusters. 8/10

Much like the many close calls in the film, this film brushes with genius. A late narrative hickup made it hard for me to re-engage with the film. A technical landmark, but that dip in the action annoyed the hell out of me. So close, yet so far.
