This movie made me dizzy, but in a good way! Sandra Bullock's breathing added to the experience but was a little too much throughout the entire movie. Watch in IMAX 3D if possible.
"Gravity" is exhilarating in a way I don't even know how to describe because never before have I experienced anything close to it in a film. But here I go anyway. Alfonso CuarĂ³n has birthed a visual masterpiece that sets a new standard for visual effects at a level that won't be matched for years to come.
If, for some reason, the trailers didn't convince you this was going to be something special, then, besides feeling sorry for you, I can't wait to see your reaction once you finally see it. My expectations were at their peak and were still completely surpassed.
Not only is the visual aspect technically mind-blowing, but so are the rest of the elements - the story, characters, acting, pacing, score, cinematography and editing are all in top form as well. I listed editing last because this is a film whose opening shot is a single take that lasts somewhere near 17 minutes - over one-sixth of its runtime. That's not to say the entire movie is like that, but it certainly sets the serenity and calmness of space - when space is serene and calm.
Do yourself a favor and see it on the biggest screen you can, preferably IMAX 3D. The immersion is breathtaking. (Literally, you will forget to breathe.)
If any of this sounds like hyperbole, please tell me where I exaggerated. I will defend every above and below statement passionately.
"Gravity" is a perfect film that must be seen to be believed. And even then, believing is still not easy.
Every new Cuaron movie is a new masterpiece. This one is no exception. Camera, music and the acting of Sandra Bullock are all outstanding. Just an awesome movie.
I don't know if I could watch Gravity again without having a heart attack. With that said, this film is absolutely amazing.Technically flawless, which is crazy when you consider how much the film has done that is completely unique and original. And emotionally taxing in exactly the ways in which it was intended. The best movie of the year, simply put.
Mindblowing. One of the most carefully crated movies from a visual standpoint that I have ever seen. My favorite movie of 2013 so far. And I don't even like Sandra Bullock!
Much like the many close calls in the film, this film brushes with genius. A late narrative hickup made it hard for me to re-engage with the film. A technical landmark, but that dip in the action annoyed the hell out of me. So close, yet so far.
space is terrifying and gravity captures this fact so well. gravity does not rely on clever writing and a twisting plot to tell a story. everything, from the adventure to the emotion, is expressed in the cinematography and a level of cgi which is simply unfounded in other action blockbusters. 8/10

Fantastic visuals. Preposterous plot. Dreadful dialogue.Buzz Lightyear's cameo offered some comic relief.
