Really disappointing from the director behind great movies such as Blue Ruin and Green Room. It's way too long and it lacks focus. Great performances, visuals and music can't really save it.
Impressive on a technical level and fine enough as a film, but also Saulnier's weakest effort to date by some margin. After the adrenaline needle to the heart that was Green Room he goes for something much more restrained, albeit equally nihilistic, but he doesn't really pull it off, and even the superb performances can't hide the meandering pace, listless dialogue, weak character motivations, and confused allegories.
wait...what happened after one hour?? the movie started pretty well, with a nice creepy atmosphere, and then we switched to another movie, another style...for the worst...
