Brutally underwhelming. This is why you shouldn't let Adam Sandler write scripts, or even help with the writing at all.
The movie is let down mostly by the shoddy script and the wasted opportunities therein. The Sandler-esque "humor" is featured too prominently, which detracts a lot from the overall enjoyment. The decision to make Dennis
a vampire really breaks the ending and overall theme of the narrative. Oh, we could have done without the shameless plugging of Sony branded phones as well. Yeuch.
The ending by the way does not
feature a big song/dance/party to wrap the whole thing up, even though they've been going on about it the entire movie. You just get a brief glimpse before the overworked credits roll in. I really expected more.
Bonus points for Mel Brooks, Blobby, werewolf pups and excellent production values. Everything looks crisp and the voices are splendid.
Let's just hope Robert Smigel doesn't let Sandler "help" write the threequel, aimed for 2018 release.
Minimally recommended, provided you liked the first one.
