The beginning is tolerable, but it goes quickly down south from there as the visual effects are among the worst I have ever seen. They go beyond cheesy (which could be fun), and deep down into so-incompetent-that-they-hurt-area. The movie's (almost) saving grace is the good acting ensemble, boasting names such as Dennis Quaid and Academy Award-winner Louis Gossett Jr. The setting and basic story is also kind of goodish, but the execution is absolutely terrible! It looks like it was directed by a three year old! A damn shame, as this could have been enjoyable on so many levels. The last dolphin-framed shot of the movie is the last nail in the coffin. Bury this trash at sea!

Hella cheesy, but really not THAT terrible. The effects are bad, but you gotta appreciate how hard they were trying to make it a fun event movie.

This is the Jaws franchise equivalent of the Star Trek movie where they have to save the whales.

Besides the mediocre effects, the biggest problem with the movie is the total lack of tension. It didn't impress me when I was 11 and it hasn't aged well. Good cast and fun premise though

It WAS a total disaster. Not even Dennis Quaid could save this movie.

Horrible. If it weren't for Dennis Quaid, this would be a TOTAL disaster.
