Why did they have to break in to retrieve the earrings? They were signed with that company! She couldn't just ask Erica for her tacky costume jewellery back? Why did Erica even take them in the first place?! It's not like she knew they had any significance whatsoever. Oh right, the writer needed a reason for Rio to open the safe. Great job. -_-
I recently saw an episode of the cartoon, those 80's shows are best left in those halcyon recesses of your childhood memories. When you dig them back up they are not pretty. While setting Jem in our time was essential, draining it of soul was not. The music was not bad but it wasn't Jem. They could have kept a nostalgic 80s electronic template for the music.
I watched The Peanuts Movie before this. That is the perfect example of a modern film being true to its source material. Jem is not the complete opposite but towards the other end of the spectrum to be sure.
I can't believe Jem got a live action reboot before Captain Planet though. Seriously, it would have been so topical if it was released in the 00's.
Anyway... Misfits mid credits. 8 years 5 months ago -

The cinematography is really fantastic, I'm going to own the bluray so I can reference it in the future. The script is sadly lacking. 8 years 6 months ago -

For those who have not seen the 80's cartoon, so are viewing this movie with no frame of reference - the movie has a classic tween/teen plot but one which is actually on the clean-cut side with a good message of believing in yourself and following your own path.
The lyrics and music weren't great but they also weren't bad. The lyrics themselves gave their own positive messages which were nicely written and the musicality was coherent, somewhat catchy and at times harmonious which gave it a nice sound.
I don't understand the slack people are giving to this, mainly because it was based on something that happened 30 years ago... of course they need to modernize it.
Compared to many movies out there for this age range that are all about romance, violence and many other negative aspects, this movie at least helps share a positive message and is family-friendly.
Overall, enjoyable. 8 years 6 months ago
