   Panunzio

   Early soviet film exploring a remote region of northern Georgia. It's a soviet propaganda film showing the benefit of industrialisation and the railroads for the previously agrarian society.
   
   Kalatozov's eye for striking imagery and talent for montage are already on display here, so if nothing else, it is worth a watch for his fantastic filmmaking prowess alone. Beneath that, there is a compelling story, and a decent streak of humour running throughout. 2 years 3 months ago
