In these times of political correctness we are living in, it has become almost a mantra that all men are villains and guilty and all women are good and innocent. This film elaborates on that premise, and describes a marriage gone wrong. Of course, following the described approach, the man is to blame, and the woman has no responsibility in all the mess.

So your ex wife can take your children, your money, your house, sleep with any man she choses to, bring him over to sleep in the house where your children live, or move in with the children to another man's house which address you don't know, change her number so that you cannot reach her, spend 24/7 whining to your children about how mean you are, and you still have to be very careful and polite so that you don't end up accused of verbal abuse or worse.

Unfortunately this film buys all that over simplistic, unidimensional view of reality, and translates it into unidimensional characters, creating an annoying and upsetting result.

A grueling watch.

You may be aware a prequel to 'Custody' is out there. Called Avant que de tout perdre, it is a 30 min short - same actors, director etc. Made (about) 4 or 5 years previously it covers events previous to Custody.

Now this sounds a bit counter intuitive, but if you plan to see both (and you should), it is recomended you see this film first, as there is quite a lot of valuable tension in this film that would be spoiled if you saw 'Avant que de tout perdre' first.
