Rewatching it years later, I wonder what was the boy's incentive to cater to tzar's needs. It didn't seem like he was so crazy about protecting the horses, plus he wasn't under guard all the time: just leave and travel someplace, superhero pony and all!
Actually he was kind of an asshole, kidnapping birds and girls on tzar's orders.

This is the original 1947 version of the film.

As far as I know the original version hasn't been subbed yet, but the remake is available with English subtitles.
