Laura is more mystery than Noir, though it is definitely rooted in the latter genre, with its deadpan, hard-nosed detective (played by Dana Andrews) and Gene Tierney as the specter of a femme fatale (alluring, but could she be guilty of something). Violence is implied, but brutal in its descriptions. Psychological warfare seems to be Andrews' best weapon. If I think of it as a mystery first, it's that it is well focused on an investigation, and if you're paying attention, you can probably figure out who did it (I mean, I did, and I'm not a whiz at that sort of thing). Noir is often convoluted and you lose the plot. Not to say Laura isn't, but the mystery is always clear the way it's put together. The twist in this one is that the detective falls in love with the murder victim, basically from descriptions of her. There's an angelic side to her he is drawn to, but that may turn sour the more he finds out. Commentary on idealized male projection through the Noir lens. And look! Vincent Price is in this as a dashing romantic lead! Great presence in a role we would now find atypical for him.

Everyone's chic murder mystery. For some reason, Fox has the original version as a special feature on the DVD & Blu Ray - the main feature is the edited version. Also, be sure to only watch the trailer after the movie as it contains some Major spoilers. All in all, one of my top ten of all time. And the musical score - WOW!

Laura really treats Bessie like dirt. Everytime Bessie has a near heart attack, Laura briefly comforts her, then asks her to make breakfast or get her things.

That assassin it has to be one of the worst that i've seen in a movie.
In that time it was so easy made woman to love you, rich and not ugly and they are at your feet.

He loved her after spending a lot of hours in her apartment, maybe it's hard to believe she loved him so fast, but after seeing the kind of men she was sorrounded, it is not so difficult.

While considering myself a fan of film-noir, I find this movie highly overrated. The acting, cast and sets were simply dreadful. If someone could enlighten me why this movie receives such praise, please do.

Loved it! Great and mostly unpredictable story, Gene Tierney is beautiful and it's fatastically lit. Some great dialogue too, especially from Clifton Webb's character. Way better than The Big Sleep

Fantastic thriller, noir-esque even if it's not a stereotypical example. Well-done all round.
I'll need to watch it again to catch Laura's feelings, but I found it easy to see Mark falling for her.

The Laura/Mark relationship is built up subtly in numerous spoken and unspoken cues, from "dame" through "Change those wet clothes, else you'll catch a cold" into spending long lengths of time in her apartment and beyond.

The film bears several repeat viewings.

Good movie, but some directors don't know how to end it, abrupt and cliché..

Good movie but fantastic ending.

Too bad the love connection between Laura and Mark was built up so poorly, that would've made this a favorite.
