   very good though i think the ending is too far-fetched for us to fully feel its monumental pathos. maximillian schell is fantastic-- so is pretty much everybody else. i just wish it avoided those insane leaps of logic.

   eg. the fact that furlong sees the murder-- that he takes the gun home-- that he decides to warn roth effectively leading the hitmen towards him (although i'm not sure if that's what happened? they just found him independently? then why did they harass furlong?)-- that the friend kills him by mistake-- just unforgivable contrivances so it can end like a classic tragedy
