A great look at early teen hysteria and the pop marketing machine that benefits greatly from Koenig and Kroitor's apparently candid (yet carefully edited) vérité style. I love the scene at the Copacabana where the owner and the filmmakers agree to have the wait staff "go about their business" in order to create some movement behind the interview; the waiters can't help but glance at the camera as they pass aimlessly by. Scenes like this give the film an air of veracity and especially transparency, and I suspect they are included for this purpose. As far as the film's subject goes, Anka's self-awareness, intelligence and professionalism set him somewhat apart from some of our more recent teen idols...

Yeah well, nothing special. Not bad, rather good, but no masterpiece. I am not gonna see it twice, I assure you.
