I like this movie quite a bit. No, I don't care for Channing Tatum nor did I really pay attention to the male stripping parts. What made me like this movie is how it portrays partying as a lifestyle and how bad it can make good people feel about themselves. Basically, an obviously intelligent man is having to do crappy jobs (like building roofs and stripping) when he has so many skills in other areas, but he's trapped. Whether it's the hedonistic lifestyle or his situation or his fear of who he really is. No, it's not Boogie Nights (but nothing is), but I actually liked the dialogue....it sounded like real conversations and arguments I've heard at parties I've gone to.

From the marketing of it, Magic Mike was not a film for me. What I kept forgetting was that this was a Steven Soderbergh picture, and I've nearly seen them all. So for what looks like a beefcake vehicle for Channing Tatum, is actually an indie character portrait using, as Soderbergh now almost exclusively does, a performer's real life and talents. When he worked with Tatum on Haywire, he found out the actor had once been a male stripper, and immediately wanted to work with him on a film that portrayed that life, and insured its truth. So we get a window into a life filled with ups and downs, punctuated by entertaining and very athletic dance numbers, shot with a rather objective lens. The individual viewer can decide if male stripping is glamorized or criticized; what we really have are characters who enjoy it, or want something more. It's got another fun, crazy performance by Matthew McConaughey too. The picture's big flaw is Cody Horn as a love interest/concerned sister. While Tatum's own acting is under-stated to say the least, she's a big ol' eyesore, expressionless and unengaging, or worse, false. In a film that strives for verisimilitude, that's a big problem, but not enough to prevent a recommendation.

A movie which gives people who want near naked bodies what they want, however they may also have wanted a comedy. What you also get is a dramatic aspect with some good enough dialogue and a believable situation. As another person mentioned here, I haven't seen a movie about this subject before and with the director's record, it was going to be worth a look, at least. Hollywood isn't too good at depicting reality, so this movie was welcome in that respect.

If you are a straight female or a gay male, what is not to love about sexy partially naked men dancing around? In addition, there is actually a plot (if somewhat predictable) and the acting wasn't cheesy at all. The dancing scenes were swoon-worthy and there were several LOL moments. Looking forward to seeing this one again- either in the theater or in my living room :)

The most interesting about this movie is that we see more men naked than women. Other movies show women being prostitutes and strippers, but there are no movies with men doing this kind of work. It's cool to see "roles" being switched.

My problem with this movie was the ending. I felt like it was rushed and didn't quite come to a closure. If the ending were better - maybe an 8 or a 9.

Almost didn't check this from shame. Girlfriend watched it with me.

Pretends to have depth when really the main and only attraction is Channing Tatum.

Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfier in a stripper film, very titillating indeed. The strip club scenes are so "entertaining" that the other scenes could be boring to watch, so might as well skip them if you're just in for some sexy stuff. Also, I was expecting "lesser" clothes, nonetheless, it's already great.

Hot guys dancing half naked, can it get any better?
But I agree with previous comments, it could be less serious. However, I liked it ;)

Great for the first half hour or so, then the plot tries to arrive and gets all fragmented. McConaughey is immense though.

The story line was pretty predictable. About half of the men were entertaining dancers. And they all had some rather eye-catching bods. As a woman that appreciates a hot bod, I'll say the movie was worth watching.. And drooling a little in certain parts.

Oh dear. For some reason I actually expected there to be a plot ... there was one ... kind of :/
It's not very good ... but surprisingly Channing Tatum pulled the movie forward. He was charming, likable and a really great dancer. The rest was depressingly forgettable, despite the high numbers of eye candy.

Really very stupid and boring. I don't even like Channing Tatum, at all, so... that's it. Cody Horn's performance as Brooke was awkward and obnoxious and the whole movie was just... not well written.

Good stuff: Hot, half naked guys dancing.

Less good stuff: Too much serious plot, too little dancing, too much clothes.

And now I want a tiny piglet.
