Excellent movie, definitely one of Romero's best. I wish he would go back to making some of these types of non-zombie movies. Way ahead of its time; beats these cartoonish supernatural vampire movies we're stuck with now.
Very good themes, concept, story. Of course there's the shoddy acting and narrative messiness inherent to this type of low-budget horror movies-- tho that last part has more to do with the fact that the black and white director's cut was two and a half hours long. The opening scene and the home invasion are very well directed with no music and escalating Coenesque hijinks. This is essentially a serial killer/rapist movie masquerading as a vampire film. Not that it matters. The metaphor is the same: society will never understand or accept the freaks. Should they?

Some of Romero's best framing and editing. Some really interesting material, especially the premise. Its a bit dull at times, but worth your time.St. Gloede
I never thought Romero had anything worthwhile other than the Dead series. This proved me wrong! Great film!ucuruju
