Not my thing. I was bored from start to finish. Sketchy characters, overlong fight sequences, the plot is a poor man's Moby Dick. Not much to say of the performances since the characters are bland.

I had been looking forward to seeing this one for quite some time, but it was greatly disappointing. It was a bit too slow for my taste, the dialogue had very little life to it, and the plot was a bit too simplistic for a movie this long.

Supremely entertaining. I adore a good period epic and sadly it's a genre that has pretty much died out in the past few decades. This one will make you smell the salt water long before you're done watching and it's buoyed by a great cast of characters with loads of naval action. Really makes you just marvel at how men could live and fight under such conditions, they were made of stronger stuff.

9 times out of 10 an action sequence just puts me right to sleep, but this is one of the few films of the genre that holds my attention all the way through. If anything, I would have liked an even longer battle scene at the end.

The film makers went to considerable expense to bring historical accuracy in every aspect of this movie, and it shows on the screen. Very deserving of its 10 Oscar noms and 2 wins in sound categories. Simply the best tall ship movie ever made.

Plot is a bit thin, it's a bit long but it is visually stunning and enjoyable to watch due to the likable characters and great performances.
