Good, but not great modern samurai flick. It tends to drag a little and it relied a bit too heavily on sentimentalism, also I couldn't get over the fact that
Yoshimura Kanichiro' sacrifice felt really pointless. What on earth did this life-affirming, skilled samurai expect when he charged into the enemy gunfire, just on his own?? To die honorably in battle? If so, why did he cling so much on his life after surviving miraculously but heavily wounded then, giving the point to the whole tearjearking finale?
