Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America, starring Greta Gerwig and Lola Kirke, is very much a spiritual sequel to one of my favorite movies from 2013, Frances Ha (also starring Gerwig). Mistress America is very much of the same spirit as Frances Ha, and while it doesn’t quite meet the lofty standard set by that film, it’s an enjoyable romp nonetheless. Gerwig continues to shine, and Lola Kirke also stands out in one of her first starring roles. 8 years 4 months ago -

the essence of the film and certain one-liners were great but one third into the film it just began to drag on and on. the dialogue was messy and unrealistic and almost annoying. i was pretty disappointed because i really love noah baumbach and greta gerwig but this film fell flat on its face. 8 years ago
