I mean the original animated movie is hard to beat because it was that good.
I found the fighting scenes laughable. I missed Li Shang's character. Xianniang was a nice addition that I didn't mind.
It had everything to be a great adaptation, but it turned out to be very disappointing. In my opinion, the animated version worked better around the fantasy subjet, and it only had Mushu.
And hated that thing about hitting arrows..
I haven't seen a Disney "HD remaster" of a beloved animated film since Beauty and the Beast came out in 2017. This one actually managed to capture my interest as Disney seemed more invested for Mulan '20 to succeed, but alas.. It's just bland as usual.
You can tell a great war story without any blood (if you exclude those three drops). A story greater than life by the movie greater than any reviewer's opinion.
My new favorite song: Christina Aguilera - Loyal Brave True (Mulan end theme).
My seven year old said it was just like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and she's only wrong in that Mulan (2020) is bad. She only cares about fight choreography though.
Boring and soulless movie not to mention poor acting, awkward dialogues and awful editing that makes experienced viewer sick. Nothing remains from original movie - no character development, no humor, no fantasy characters, no songs.
200 million dollars to produce such a stiff, heavy-handed clog of a film that should be sprawling and imaginative. It's a shame because the opulent sets and really beautiful landscape photography hint at the kind of epic we could expect but which we never get.
It really doesn't help that the actors' (English-performed) dialogue appears so unnatural, a factor which gave many earlier wuxia productions some amusing charme but in a picture which takes itself so damn serious just comes off as awkward.
Mulan is so digital in the worst way possible, so horribly edited at times and so deeply soulless in its storytelling, it basically feels like the antithesis to what cinema should try to achieve in my mind.

One of the worst remake from Disney. Where is the original spirit ? I'm still looking for it...Stick to the original cause it's time wasting

In addition to the other comments, it's a straight forward plot. Good rating 6/10cangelm1
If you want to watch Mulan, stick to the original animated version. This was a waste in many ways.chunkylefunga

Mulan is already a talented warrior at the start of the movie, so she has no arc.
