I am not smart enough to talk about this cinematic gem. Seeing the restoration on the big screen makes it feel like it is a document from a parallel universe.

Filming went from 1976-78 but was stopped by the Polish authorities when almost completed. Zulawski could just continue working on the film and finish it 10 years later.

I was a bit disappointed by this :/ Zulawski's camerawork is of course astounding, as is all the mise en scene, but the dialogue is laughably bad. It reads like a student art film take attempting to be Tarkovsky.
