If you don't like Seth Rogen or Seth Rogen's humor, then you will not like this movie.
I love Seth Rogen, I love the movie. Good supporting cast and pretty cool cameos.
It is the first movie with big role that I saw with Zac Efron and I like him in this role.
4/5
Straightforward. Puerile. Yet this film breezes with a light-hearted sense of fun, poised at the two-way intersection of carnality and responsibility, besting my old 'guilty' pleasure Old School at it's own game. It's not as probing as, say, The World's End when it comes to its' character dilemmas, nor as epochal as a Superbad for the student crowd, but its' combination of a high laugh rate, open candor, game performances, and wish fulfillment make Neighbors a fun watch that doesn't claim to have ideas above it's station. Particular props to Zac Efron, who carries much of the bawdy fun on his capable shoulders, clearly up for it. As far as Rogen flicks go, it's up there: the agreeably coarse cotton-candy mentality of much modern comedy is very much in place, and you won't remember a lot of it in a week's time, but it goes down well and (surprisingly) doesn't leave you feeling sick. More warm and satisfied, rather. Good to see in a packed theater.
Interesting that Rose Byrne is the actual lead in this film but doesn't make the poster in some territories (where this is called Bad Neighbours). Some great moments, and Byrne is on form as usual, but it's ultimately pretty forgettable.
I saw the second Neighbors before I saw the first and liked it. Didn't stop me from liking the first one as well. It's just very hard to dislike Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne's hapless parents who hope they're still young and cool, but need to accept their new lives. So whatever juvenalia Rogan films invariably seem to offer, something I'm really not into, they somehow pass the test because of his innate sweetness. In Byrne, he's found a great match. Zack Efron makes a good fraternity villain (a trope that used to be bigger, am I right?), at once magnetic and unknowingly pathetic. The Neighbors franchise is really about the difficulties of growing up and moving on, and though this is a revenge comedy about leaving used condoms on your neighbor's lawn, it has that pleasant thematic level that works for both sides of the fence.
I feel like I wrote this movie because it's the kind of poop I could come up with. The difference being I don't get paid millions to write crappy scripts. If anyone wants to pay me millions for shitty dialogue I'm available though.
Movie is ok.

Zac Efron and James Franco looks too alike.MiniMyself
Movie has the wrong title. Townies is only a working title. Correct title is Neighbors.
