Nicholas and Alexandra is horribly underrated. The acting is phenomenal, (especially Michael Jayston), the music is great, and the general mood is so vivid and detailed that it pulls you in as you see the Romanov's downfall. A seemingly forgotten masterpiece.

More like "Nicholas and Alexandra and Rasputin and Alexei and Olga and Tatiana and Maria and Anastasia and Nikolasha and Gilliard and Vladimir and Dr. Botkin and Lenin and Trotsky and Stalin..."

It's quite engaging but it's not as good as Lean's epics. It needed more focus. Also, it should've ended a minute earlier; it would've been more powerful with an ellipsis. That said, the acting and the production value are through the roof. I would still recommend it, specially to history buffs.

Be sure to see this very fine film if you're a fan of David Lean's historical epics. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
