Excellent movie, the first one of a trilogy about WWII in the eyes of a Japanese humanist. This first one depicts life in the Japanese prisoner-of-war camps. How the Chinese were treated. Very interesting.renepuig
Though the film is long, you forget about it minutes into the film...and by the end you want more. This is cinema at it's best!pramodc84
What a cinema!Jumping Elephant
or you could just call it "The Human Condition: Part I" like IMDb does, although they include the epithet "No Greater Love".arrbrr

The first Japanese movie that couldn't hold my interest. Neither the plot nor scenery impressed me. Except for the train in the beginning, I don't think it accurately translated the truly horrific conditions of war.Knaldskalle
This is also known as "The Human Condition".
