While not the slam dunk that "Get Out" is, "Nope" still contains fantastic visuals, sound work, as well as some truly startling sequences. The ideas contained within take a little more uncovering, but the more I think about "Nope", the more I find myself liking this movie.

One the surface, Nope is a cool horror twist on the ol' alien abduction story, visually interesting, funny when it wants to be, tense when it needs to be, and extremely well-constructed, its Chekhov's guns organic rather than forced. But the choices Jordan Peele makes force you to scratch beyond that surface at what meaning might be hidden underneath. I came out of this thinking it was Peele's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with much of the humor coming from the vacuity of the projects various characters take pride in. A story about exploitation (of animals, child actors, tragedy, even self-exploitation), doing everything for "the money shot" including putting people in danger or burning them out (art as commodity is definitely a theme, note the extended Monopoly riff), and a sense that if you don't exploit yourself, someone else will. And in the context of Peele's oeuvre (seeing as the first piece of film shows an unknown black man on a horse, equating the two), that exploitation and thoughtless abuse is of African-Americans. Here, I thought of Childish Gambino's This Is America - African-Americans in the entertainment industry becoming acceptable "as spectacle" to white audiences, but at what personal or cultural cost? Look at me! Make me famous! That's the only way to be safe and thrive! Say the characters, says the monster.

Absolutely had a blast with this film, it was fun it was energizing. I was just fully on board with the ride and truly excited. I wasn't bored for the entire run time it was such a thrill.

I've always said, that what it really comes down to for me is how a movie makes me feel. I don't care about plot, I don't care about a movie even making sense at all. Just as long as I come away having felt something. Be it laughter, tears, frights, thrills. This movie was just fun as could be. This is straight up the best horror/thriller whatever you want to call it in years for me. It filled me with wonder and was so refreshingly new that I was engaged.

The alien storyline was too silly/funny to be scary, creepy, or even startling. I also found it an odd choice to have the alien predator appear to be made out of fabric. There's nothing frightening about a hot air balloon.

The Gordy subplot, however, was well executed and truly horrifying. But what did it have to do with the main plot? Just give us a standalone Gordy movie starring Steven Yeun. That would have been so much better.

Nope has other shortcomings I won't get into regarding the half-baked development and execution of its plot. Overall, fairly entertaining but disappointing to see Jordan Peele drop the ball with this one after having delivered two gems: Get Out and Us.

A big disappointment, and this is coming from someone who liked Us as much as (if not more than) Get Out. Tonally all over the place, it almost seemed like it wanted to be a comedy, yet any laughs it got felt unintentional. Daniel Kaluuya - a terrific actor - is completely wasted, and Keke Palmer just annoyed me. Characters make huge leaps in logic or behave totally unrealistically, and the whole Gordy subplot felt grafted on from another film (and, again, came across as more silly than dramatic). A Bible quote and some symbolism, in and of themselves, do not a good movie make.

Here's hoping Peele gets his game back for the next one.

A very enjoyable movie. There were a couple of beautiful memorable scenes: the champ sitcom scene was thrilling but the scene of the hellish night and then OJ walking in the fog in the morning, this whole part was amazing, especially the sound track, loved it !

I watched « Nope » mainly for Steven Yeun, also because I liked Get out (People seem to enjoy US but I’ve never been able to get past the first third of the movie, it bored me for some reason).

This movie might not be a masterpiece but I find some of the reviews to be too harsh, I liked it a lot and I totally recommend it.

Lackluster and films like a low budget B list movie from the black and white era.

People keep overhyping Jordan because of Get Out.

The movie is a complete mess. The script is a mess, the plot is all over the place, the shots and sequencing is sloppy and the movie was easily 40 minutes too long, with an absolute ton of filler.

It may actually have been a better movie if it had been just about the chimps rampage rather than some weird alien monster.

Hopefully for his next movie Jordan will actually hire a pro to review his script.

Daniel Kaluuya looked bored or severely ill through the whole film and I simply could not get over it. Thank god for Keke Palmer bringing the comedic relief and acting for both of them.
