Not bad, but not really worth watching unless you're desperate for entertainment of this vein. It's like a John Carpenter movie when Carpenter is at his worst. It's a little better than Syfy quality. Not quite sure how it holds a 7.1 with 200k votes on IMDB.

Draws heavily from alien, but throws an Antihero/superhero into the formula, giving the film two focal points instead of one, fairly well executed and with some nice scifi backdrops. Not a bad way to spend two hours, but if you're looking for high brow, keep moving

Vin Diesel plays a 14 year old's version of an outer space badass.

An ambitious B-movie which almost by accident turns out to be sometimes great and then still remains underdone. If you're a teenager or have the tastes of a teenager, e.g. are fascinated by every Alien film and all of its clones, grew up with 00s horror video games and don't need witty dialogue, I'd say you shouldn't miss this!

Really cool set designs, world building, equipment. On a budget of only 23 million dollars, Pitch Black's looks puts other competitors of its time with quadruple the money to shame.

The original "Chronicle of Riddick", Pitch Black, does a lot with a little. It never over-explains anything, letting its claustrophobic world get built from inference. Vin Diesel's limited performance creates an ambiguous and therefore deceptively complex anti-hero. And the desert setting with its fortuitous eclipse is a natural ticking clock on a world where mutant bats only come out at night. This is how, though "Alien" type sci-fi thrillers are a dime a dozen, this one rises a step above the rest. It's also got some intriguing, if under-developed, secondary characters (the Imam, Frank, the reluctant captain, even the douchey bounty hunter is not all he seems) for the monsters to eat through. It's not a revolution in the genre, but a surprisingly solid entry in it.

Only Vin Diesel movie worth watching. I don't exactly know how or why, but for some reason I really like this movie.

An enjoyable b-movie, complete with gloriously cheesy one liners, plenty of gore, questionable acting, and horrible Australian accents. So long as you go in with the right expectations this should be pretty good fun.
