He went full retard. The trailer of this movie almost seems like a faux trailer out of Tropic Thunder, but it's a real movie. I know tastes are different, but I can't believe this has a 8.6 on IMDb, and thus currently a place in the top 250. Good Lord...
This is only a "masterpiece" if you have the sensibilities of a 5-year old child. I mean, good grief. Nothing was funny, everyone overacted... I was expecting cartoon animals to jump out at the halfway point.
Not that good, not that bad.
This film meets a lot of opposition because it has a high rating on IMDB and keeps popping up in the Top 250 List. But the people who take issue with that should fault IMDB, not this film or the filmmakers (or just favor other films).
P.K. has a lot of shortcomings, and I think that's because it tries too hard to make a compromise. The central idea of the movie is having religion questioned and challanged by a naive and innocent outsider, and there are a lot of good scenes and interesting points made about this troughout the movie, as the theme is developed. But it never gets too controversial or intense, and everything is presented in a kind of vanilla Bollywood format that doesn't really fit the subject. I guess that was done in order to not offend anyone and to be able to reach more people with this film, but ultimately this compromise makes it fall short on both ends - as critizism of blind faith/abuse of power by religious leaders and as a "standard Bollywood film", with the love story, the singing and dancing, and so on. So, no matter what it is you are looking for in P.K., you probably won't be completely satisfied.
So, it has all the problems Bollywood movies usually have: way too long, tonally inconsistent, overacted and about as subtle as a sledgehammer. But I will say, its direct and rather brutal takedown of organized religion impressed me. I always assumed India had a conservative culture that viewed religion with deference. This movie does no such thing. Granted most of its ideas aren't groundbreaking, but when you look at the source...you kinda have to admire the balls of saying the things it does.

Aamir Khan is the single biggest reason I have for giving up keeping up with IMDB Top 250.crazy_bitch

Barely over 500 checks but in the IMDb top 250?tommy_leazaq
Except some portions of Amir Khan's flashback, I found this movie terribly unfunny and about as subtle as a tight slap across the face.Paravail
