I don't know, I probably need more time to digest this one.

It was enjoyable and I was completely engaged throughout. The special effects were breathtaking, this is the only movie apart from Avatar that I would recommend watching in 3D. Some very strong cast performances, Fassbender in particular steals the show. It's entertaining, well put together and yet... it just seemed to be lacking something yet I'm not sure what. Perhaps it could have sacrificed a small portion of the visual spectacle for character development, which might have enabled the audience to care a little more about their fate.

Quality movie and one that's definitely worth seeing in theaters.

Agree with the last commenter. The film certainly was impressive in a literal sense. Scott has certainly managed to create a sense of grandness, especially with regards to the subject matter of the film. However, some of the scenes and dialogues were quite clichéd and unrealistic. spoiler

All in all, I'd say it's a good film and I've enjoyed it, but it certainly has some noticeable flaws.

I watched the film today and I must say - it's good, it's really, really good!

For me this was among the best movies in the last few years.

Absolutely magnificent! As a science-fiction/action movie it is great, but it has this intelligence, this depth and reflection, that makes it excellent - a masterpiece even. I loved it. Definitely a new favourite.

I think I held off commenting here because I think the new sequel Alien: Covenant gives us a good idea of what this movie is all about. In short, it wasn't enough for Ridley Scott to make more Alien movies. He figured that audiences wanted more, it wasn't enough to just watch eggs and facehuggers and aliens running around killing people, we apparently needed to know the origins of the famous horror movie creature. Thus the new series of Alien movies were born starting here.

The question I keep asking myself is... do we really need to know the origin story here? When Prometheus came out, the vast majority of reviewers didn't even label it an "Alien" film, but merely taking place in the same universe. It certainly tries to tell this massive and grand story behind the simple yet awesome creature that is the Xenomorph and I can't help but feel that it is just too complex. It's probably why Covenant was so simple in comparison (and I would argue far too simple.) It's just seems like such a tortuous way to tackle philosophy, mythology, and universal concepts within a film series that is primarily based on action and horror in the perfect amounts.

I really really enjoyed it. The story makes sense to me and I can't wait for the sequel (ok, I can wait. But I am excited). I was never a big fan of Alien franchise, the background world was the only thing I cared for in the previous movies. When I watch Alien I don't care for the slasher that happens on the ship, I just want to know what the space jockey is. And Prometheus finally delivers what I always wanted and I'm more than happy now. Not a dream come true, but an entertaining movie, interesting idea and a very good execution with great performances etc.
Maybe I'm being too possitive, I don't think this movie is perfect or anything. It does have a lot of confusing things in it and there are many things left unaswered. So if you could deal with that and still enjoy a movie, then I strongly recommend Prometheus. If even little plot holes bother you, don't go near it. It's ridiculous how much certain people got upset over this film. If you are one of them, just stop watching movies altogether, you don't deserve it.
