Horrible, and pointless. Only Gus Van Sant would be arrogant enough to think he could remake a Hitchcock classic, basically shot by shot. There's only one Alfred Hitchcock -- this film is Exhibit A.
I forgot this movie even existed until I saw it on Van Sant's filmography list just now. What a waste of artistic capital to make this his follow-up project to Good Will Hunting.
I actually thought this was a pretty decent remake considering how successful the original was. Vince Vaughn did a good job of actually making me like him. Also it's very visually striking-- they went straight from black and white to boosting the colors and atmosphere. I like how they kept the shower scene that brand of chocolate-syrup-blood (in this case, very extremely unrealistic fake blood) cheesy-horror-film.
Visually, it's actually quite good - that is to say, it certainly doesn't look like something made for TV. Unfortunately, every thing else about the film is a pale shadow of its inspiration.

Why do they even try to copy a classic. It is so bad that I check it as my first dislike.selcukgucer
