I'm a great fan of the James Bond series, but this movie is a big dissapointment. One of the lesser ones in the series. Movie feels rushed, story is flat, no interesting villians and although there is plenty of action it's filmed with so much shaky camera work that in the cinema you couldn' t tell what was happening. On the small screen it improves a bit.
Daniel Graig is terrific as Bond and gets good support from some of the regular players in the series. The biggest critic i have of the movie that although it is a James Bond movie it doesn't feel as a James Bond movie.
After the great Casino Royale, QOS was an ok movie but a big letdown for a JB movie. Skyfall thankfully got the series back on track and i'm looking forward to the next one.
Rewatched it again last night and it remaines a frustraiting movie. I really want to like it and it got much going for it but in the end it simply doesn't work as a James Bond movie. Story raises to many questions instead of answering them. During the action scenes you dont know what's going on......and an attempted rape scene doesn't belong in a James Bond movie!!!!
Never dull but still a big let down in the series! 10 years 7 months ago -

Casino Royale set the bar really high and Quantum unfortunately doesn't even attempt to reach the same height. The villains are pointlessly boring and even the critical "bad guy plan" is among the silliest of all the Bond films. I found myself not caring if the villain pulled it off or not. The entire concept of Quantum was a poor substitute for SPECTRE and never should have been included in the storyline. Oddly enough, the whole having a secret meeting in the midst of opera was kinda cool, and certainly worthy of something that SPECTRE would pull off, but it's such a small highlight hidden in the midst of an ugly film.
Watched it again recently and I almost get the feel that they thought Bond's emotional attachment with Vesper was a major driving force in the film, so much so that it was deemed unnecessary to round out the rest of the cast or story. The problem is that it just isn't deep enough to carry the whole film at all. A more coherent plotline of 007 being emotionally bogged down with revenge/regret would have made for much better viewing if done correctly.
The action scenes are also rather mediocre. Someone in the writing room thought that interspersing unrelated sequences into the midst of an action sequence would be a good idea i.e. a horse race and an opera performance, but it fails miserably. The film cuts are quick and chaotic to begin with, but to constantly distract the viewer with unnecessary visual input is ridiculous. Perhaps done with extreme care it might have worked but it came out an utter mess.
