Crude and militaristic propaganda that seems to be aimed at survivalist gun-nuts. Unlike something like Rambo II, which still manages to entertain, this takes itself deadly seriously, is leadenly paced, has a terrible illogical script, and has tension-free action scenes where annoying college kids massacre hordes of trained soldiers.
Even it had come out in the 50's at the height of 'red menace' paranoia, it would have been barely acceptable.. but in the detente era, a hateful piece of nasty xenophobia.
.. But still intriguing for a display of attitudes. Compare to corny 1940's stuff with stereotype Nazis played by Conrad Veidt or George Sanders.
(I said compare - not rank along side of - either CV or GS could act the socks off anyone of these..))
This is the poster child for those movies that you find on TV at 11:30pm (when you should be getting ready for bed) and proceed to watch until 1:30am (even though you've seen it 10 times)...one of cinema's guilty pleasures.
