A wonderfully charming and well put together tale that has sentiment but dispenses with schmaltz. An interesting ending too which doesn't fully resolve things and is left up to the viewer to decide what would happen next. A largely forgotten gem. Barbara Stanwyck is utterly gorgeous in this and puts in an astonishing performance. As ever. 12 years 3 months ago -

Wow! Rarely does a movie wrap my attention so much. This is one of my favorite black&white movies of all time. The court scene at the end of the movie just had me and I didn't know what was going to happen.
It was also great fun to see Sterling Holloway in a live action movie, since I'm used to just hearing his voice in animations. 3 months 4 weeks ago -

I agree with DerekFME - Barbara Stanwyck is so beautiful in this!
A perfume called Hour of ecstasy appears in the movie. I wouldn't give much attention to it but the same brand appears in Lang's You and me (1938). I wonder if this perfume ever really exsisted. 9 years ago
