This movie's designed for ones who love psychoanalysis, unusual yet interesting characters, and the outlook of the dingy and depressive life. This movie's also tailormade to make you think 'hell no I'm not seeing that again.'

All I knew about it is that it had a monstrous fridge. So a lot more hyper and frenetic than Aronofsky's direction in later films, though it has the same expressionistic aesthetic. We follow four characters as their drug addictions spiral out of control and destroy their lives. Unusually, there's an older lady in the group, hooked on diet pills (which is why the fridge made the news), a story we rarely see unless made into a remedial TV movie of the week. Aronofsky uses lots of clever camera and editing tricks to get us in the characters' heads and track each descent into hell, and I love the sound design that replaces score with the sound of an orchestra tuning its instruments, as if they're always on the cusp of achieving their relatively simple ambitions, or else falling off the edge of the world. It all ends in a shocking crescendo you won't be eager to watch again until you've digested it. Strong stuff.

A very powerful movie that truly is one of a kind. Just shows the destructive power of drugs and how it really can happen to anyone and how easily one could get sucked into it. Brilliant performance by a brilliant cast. Jared Leto gets top marks for this one, as does Jennifer Connely. We also see a completely different side to Marlon Wayans.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I first saw this movie. I thought it was going to be your typical cheesy Hollywood movie about drugs, but it was a lot more than that. It should how drugs can affect anyone and how the outcome will turn out for different for each person when they are consuming and abusing drugs. Wonderful cinematography and music as well.

I felt very uncomfortable watching this movie because of how much I was able to feel for all of the characters. Drugs are so readily available today and we all know at least one person who is experiencing some degree of addiction. We, the audience, can therefore empathize with the characters and truly feel the harsh reality of drug abuse. A must watch for all audience. 4/5.
