Sweet, funny, moving drama. Gonna watch mary poppins again for the firts time in 25 years. Emma Thompson is terrific!

But why is this in the music top list?

Lovely film. Such a pity that it was only nominated in the category of "Best Original Score." The performances are outstanding. Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks, and Colin Farrell are top notch. I actually was shocked at the range that Farrell had in his role. His absolute greatest, by far.

Hanks and Giamatti were great, but this is really a showcase for the irrepressible Emma Thompson. She hits every note here with ease and panache. Truly splendid to watch.

The film is really bogged down with all of the flashbacks. They are bewildering at the start of the film, and then their significance is telegraphed halfway through the film. The last couple are necessary for the full emotional impact, but I wish the filmmakers had devised a way to make this movie without overuse of these flashbacks which killed momentum at certain key points.

Still, the film crescendoes nicely to a surprisingly moving climax.

Emma Thompson was perfection in this movie. Tom Hanks was his usual wonderful self. Beautiful close-up shots, fantastic outdoor shots. Infusing bits of the original MARY POPPINS movie into this movie was brilliant...it made me want to see MARY POPPINS all over again. I highly recommend this movie to those interested in the back story to the MARY POPPINS movie.

Emma Thompson was absolutely brilliant, for me hers was the best performance of the film.

Paul Giamatti was brilliant in this film. Despite not having a lead role his character affected me the most. I'm glad I watched this.

Overall, great movie and I recommend those who are thinking of watching this movie to please do so! You're all perfectly capable ;)

the only reason to watch this movie is Emma Thompson, even if you are a big Mary Poppins fan like me.spoiler

Emma Thompson was equally as magnificent as Tom Hanks. I'm a big Disney fan anyway but I absolutely loved this.

This might just be another mediocre/kinda stupid movie for people who didn't grow up with Mary Poppins (probably why it hasn't gotten more positive reviews, but for me, who grew up with Mary Poppins, this is such a wonderful movie, which brings back a lot of great memories!
Was really surprised and absolutely loved it!

Good movie, the acting is great, with a great cast.
The movie do not touch me in sentimental level like to other people, Colin Farrell does a good job in that way such as Emma Thompson.

Felt like a bad made for cable TV movie in that it completely lacked subtlety. The actors did the best they could with a poor script. The score was similarly atrocious. I was really hoping I'd like this film as I love classic Disney films, especially Mary Poppins, and I am a fan of all the actors involved, but the whole thing was overly melodramatic and the characters were so two-dimensional. I was wondering why this film didn't get much attention during awards season, and now I know why.
