Not as bad as you'd think. The movie does quite a good job of capturing the style and feel of the first movie on what was a very limited budget, and the financial constraints only really show in some of the CGI (the explosions in particular are just awful). The acting is decent, but the best actors only appear in a few scenes, and the plot is just absurdly horrible, even judged as a B-movie. The fact they try to ground it in reality with onscreen text before and after the film is unintentionally hilarious. But then the original wasn't exactly Chinatown either.

Thankfully the action is good, the characters are just as diverse and insane as in the original, and the style is still pretty slick, particularly the climactic confrontation. Despite running at only just over 80 minutes the movie drags like hell in the middle, but apart from that it's an enjoyable ride for the most part and it's worth enduring some of the weaker moments just to get to the last scene, which is great. If you enjoyed the original there's a decent chance you'll enjoy this as well. 10 years 8 months ago
