A classic, of course, that's for sure... but I do enjoy the newer parts a lot more. It's not just the effects, it's also the actors... I guess I'll never be a fan of Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher...
Nice story, though.

I personally disliked it because it doesn't give a shit about the universe in wich the story takes place. It seems that the only reason the movie takes place in space is to make the spaceship fights! It's so antropocentric even if it hasn't had to be! Even 2001: A Space Odyssey is less antropocentric and it shows no other race than the human one! Harrison Ford is acting like some crazy Texan wich somehow learned to drive a spaceship, it seems so out of contest! So, if the movie doesn't give a crap about himself and just want to arrive at the good ending, why should I give a crap? I know, that's a classic, but even stinky armpits are a classic, it doesn't mean it is great!
