This film suffers from lazy writing. Kara can somehow alter her appearance at will like a Martian and magically emerges from the craft wearing the Supergirl costume as if she had been wearing it the whole time. She can also conveniently speak English.

Add to this too many forced references/connections to Superman and Lois along with a strange romantic sub plot between a man and a minor (by American legal standards.)

Too many elements seem rushed while other scenes insufferably drawn out.

The only positive is the introduction of a supernatural antagonist which is one of the few threats Kryptonians face on Earth. Just a shame they didn't use an established comic character like Felix Faust, Klarion or Wotan.

Spot on casting for Supergirl, if you ask me--but I defy anyone to watch this movie in one sitting without falling asleep.

I thought it was enjoyable in a bad 80s movie way. It has the feel of a night time soap like Dynasty. The acting is over the top and cheesy. You can easily see why it was wholeheartedly rejected when it came out.

This was... odd. Doesn't fit in with DC continuity at all. Jimmy Olsen from the other movies is the only crossover character. The effects are pretty good for the time, as a B-movie. Supergirl is really charming at least.
Mostly, I was wondering if there was any real "plan" for the DC movies - seemed like they got lucky in 1978 with the first and then were just winging it afterwards.
