Beautifully shot noir. All the noir elements are there...fog, shadows, lighting, framed shots, close-ups with highlighted shadows, silhouetted shots. All beautifully done. A delight to watch. And what a cold-hearted villain!
Exquisite lighting in this one. You'll want to take many screenshots for your "This is how noir looks" folder, very expressionist sometimes. Apart from that, I liked the flower-framed scene with

at the sanatorium very much.
Post-2020 observation: This movie did Sound of Metal first! Also a great scene. Richard Conte is a brilliant villain!
I wasn't impressed at all, apart from the memorable acting, especially by Conte and Wallace, you can't overlook that it's a low budget film with many flaws.

This film has one of the best performances of a villain I can remember seeing. Hats off to you, Richard Conte. I wish I could talk as fast as you.ClassicLady

This was... mindblowing. Probably the "noir" I've seen that fits the definition - the look, especially - the more closely.Torgo
