To much of Hollywood. Good story, bad acting. Cheesy acting, stiff. What's up with mixing german and english.
I rather see it in just german... 10 years 7 months ago -

Just didn't feel like the book at all! Everything that happened was changed, which was so weird. They even called in Heaven street, and yet insisted on Ja and Nein's???? The german/english mix made no sense. In the book it works of course, Death tells the story in English and uses the German words were equivalents are not available or to remind the reader that its happening in German. It just came across dumb in the movie. So many integral messages from the book were changed completely or not there at all. I just really couldn't work out what the movie was trying to focus on, or portray at all besides sad war story, which is not the essence of The Book Thief at all. 10 years 1 month ago -

Obviously not as good as the book, but I still liked it very much. The casting was good in my opinion, I especially enjoyed Geoffrey Rush's performance. 10 years 6 months ago
